Cycle the Katy Trail with Fit 4 Adventure and Big BAM!

Embark on an unforgettable journey along the famous Katy Trail with Fit 4 Adventure and Big BAM (Bike Across Missouri)! This week-long event promises a scenic, enjoyable and invigorating cycling adventure through Missouri’s diverse landscapes AND a chance to make friends with fun and like-minded cyclists from across the country.

The Big BAM is becoming an EVENT... Similar to other annual cycling events, the Big BAM is growing in popularity, yet remains intimate and accessible for all types of riders. Along with the beautiful scenery, enjoy music and complimentary drinks every evening, with opportunities to explore Missouri's thriving wine country and historical sites along the route. Come join us for a beautiful ride through America's Heartland!

The Katy Trail is renowned as the one of the top-rated rail-to-trail bike paths in the country. It is also the longest developed rail-trail in the United States. It is a hard-packed gravel route stretched across 240 miles, all of which is meticulously maintained by the Missouri State Parks Department. This iconic trail follows the path of the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, abbreviated as the ‘MKT’ and known as ‘The Katy’. Cyclists on the trail are treated to a variety of landscapes, from the dramatic river bluffs along the Missouri River to the serene farmland and quaint small towns dotting the route. The trail is largely flat, making it accessible to cyclists of all levels, yet it offers enough diversity to keep even seasoned riders engaged. Take a look and see what it’s like ro ride the Katy Trail:

DAILY ITINERARY

Day 1: October 5, 2025

Your local Fit 4 Adventure guide will greet you in St. Louis and deliver you to the Big BAM crew who will load you on a comfortable coach with other participants for a trip to Clinton where we find the western end of the Katy Trail. Plan to be in St. Louis in the morning. Shuttle departs at approximately 12:00pm.

Day 2: October 6, 2025 – Clinton to Sedalia

The BAM ride begins in Clinton, a trailhead marked by a vintage MKT caboose. Riders set off from here on the first leg of their journey. This section of the trail offers picturesque views of rolling farmland and gentle inclines, making it a perfect introduction to the ride. The day's destination is Sedalia, a town rich in railroad history. A post-ride party will be held at the historic Hotel Bothwell. Ride distance: Approximately 38 miles

Day 3: October 7, 2025 – Sedalia to Boonville

In downtown Sedalia we find the original MKT depot, now a Katy Trail Welcome Center. It’s a great place to start the ride towards Boonville. The route today continues along the former railroad right-of-way, featuring gentle hills and rolling farmland. At the Boonville trailhead, visit the Rivers, Rails & Trails Museum for more local information and souvenirs. If desired, you can visit the post-ride party at Kemper Park. Ride distance: Approximately 35 miles

Day 4: October 8, 2025 – Boonville to Jefferson City

On today’s route you will ride the trail through a stone railroad tunnel built in 1892, grab coffee in a charming town called Rocheport, pedal past BoatHenge and visit a laid-back riverbank “resort” called Cooper’s Landing.  We’ll roll to a stop in Jefferson City by late afternoon and enjoy dinner at the Canterbury Hill Winery, overlooking the Missouri State Capitol and the Missouri River. Ride distance: Approximately 50 miles

Day 5: October 9, 2025 – Jefferson City to Hermann

Today, vineyards are common throughout the hillsides and there are 18 or more wineries right along the Katy Trail. We may pick a couple of favorites for tastings as we pass through this important Viticultural Area.  The town of Hermann, in the heart of Missouri’s wine country, is our overnight destination and it’s filled with charming restaurants, tasting rooms, antique shops and historic inns. Our hotel tonight has a speakeasy basement bar and live music. Ride distance: Approximately 43 miles

Day 6: October 10, 2025 – Hermann to Augusta

The ride out of Hermann will start with a crossing over the Missouri River before connecting back to the Katy Trail.  A new bridge here, featuring a protected bike lane, is just one example of how the state has worked to make riding the Katy Trail safer and more enjoyable.  Today’s destination is Augusta, another historic river town that’s been revived by the growing popularity of the Katy Trail. Post-ride festivities will be at the local Good News Brewing. Ride distance: Approximately 34 miles

Day 7: October 11, 2025 – Augusta to St. Charles

Watch the landscape morph from farmland to suburbia as the ride draws closer to the finish line.  The home stretch brings you back into historic St. Charles where you picked up the shuttle days ago. We had a wonderful time on this trip. It was well organized and supported. Joe and Nick were excellent guides and fun to travel with. We highly recommend the Katy Trail bike tour and look forward to our next Fit 4 Adventure trip!

Greer- Katy Trail

Joe and Brian were amazing guides. Brian kept us out of trouble on the trail while Joe made sure we were fed and comfortable. Our fellow travelers were a delight. The sights, food, music festival and beauty of the trail made this a never to forget adventure. Very doable for most fitness levels.

Dan - Katy Trail
Houston, TX

This was our 4th trip with F4A and as usual we had a casual, relaxing and fun adventure. The Katy trail is beautiful with picturesque farms, bluffs and small towns. The hotel accommodations were unique and comfortable. The restaurants were local and we explored regional favorites like fried pickles! The crew was helpful and resourceful. We are looking forward to trip #5 in the future.

David - Katy Trail
York, PA

While my wife an I expected an enjoyable ride on the Katy Trail, we did not expect the incredible "above and beyond" support we received. Joe and Brian surprised us at every turn. 1. Meals far exceeded our expectations. VERY nice restaurants. 2. Accommodations were excellent. We would never have found such gems on our own. 3. Snacks. At every rest stop, Joe always provided what we needed. When he learned each rider's preference, he would make special trips between rest stops to bring us our favorite snacks. 4. Companionship. Everyone bonded exceptionally well. At the end of each day we would all gather together and hang out wherever we were staying and just talk and laugh. 5. Knowledge and bike hacks. I've been a competitive cyclist for more than 40 years. I learned a lot of simple, useful hacks from Joe (ie, taping an extra chain link to one of the bike's cables to ensure based on 11/12 speed the link would be compatible). 6. Several city tours. We would all jump in the van and Joe would take us around town explaining history and sites. I've likely left out a lot, but for the sake of keeping it short, 100% of my expectations (which are quite high) were far exceeded. Thanks guys for a memorable week!
