If you have always dreamt of visiting Iceland (or are eager to return), mark your calendars for August 12, 2026, when the city of Reykjavik will get to witness a show that is out of this world...

That's right- the next solar eclipse will occur on August 12, 2026, and the 'Path of Totality' will pass right over Reykjavik- Lucky for you, we have your front-row seat...

https://eclipse2026.is

Iceland is a hot tourism destination to begin with- this unique celestial phenomenon will only add to the allure. Not to worry- we've already booked the hotels, we've already organized the transportation, we've already scouted the activities and mapped out the excursions- all you have to do is show up and enjoy!

This trip is virtually identical to our typical Iceland Adventure Tour- save the magic of witnessing the solar eclipse, of course...

Countless waterfalls, immense glaciers, black sand beaches, active volcanoes, hot rivers and icy lagoons. All the wonders of world in one place. That’s why Iceland is a must-see. In 2026, it is literally a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that kicks off with a chance to witness a total eclipse.

This is an active multi-sport trip that includes hiking, kayaking, horseback and more. Ours is a custom itinerary that delivers unique and memorable experiences as we explore the nature, history and culture of this remarkable land. It’s a trip like no other.

DAILY ITINERARY

Day 1 –

Most flights from the U.S. arrive very early in the morning, giving us a full day to acclimate and explore in Reykjavík before setting off on our bigger adventure. We’ll keep the activities easy-paced with the options of a spa visit, walking city tour, or coastal bicycle ride. We’ll gather for a Welcome Dinner in downtown Reykjavik, and retire early to our cozy hotel.

Day 2 –

As the sun rises over Reykjavík, we'll be making our plans for this extraordinary day, when that sun will be ‘totally’ transformed by a solar eclipse – an event that last occurred here in August 1999. We’ll be watching anxiously as the moon begins to obscure the sun, darkening the scene for a moment, and revealing a breathtaking halo of light in the sky. Of course, we can’t guarantee a cloud-free sky for the event- but we can promise to be nimble and well-informed for the best viewing possibilities. We will have our own van, and will have all day to watch conditions develop. Our Welcome Dinner follows in downtown Reykjavik, and we’ll finish the day with a short walk to our cozy hotel.

Day 3 –

Now, the real adventure begins. After a quick trip around the Golden Circle and its popular tour bus attractions (waterfalls, geysirs and fissures) we will embark on a more unique and private tour experience. We’ll take in the wonders of Iceland on our own schedule, in our own way. First stop: lunch at the Friðheimar family farm where tomato-everything is on the menu. From there, we’ll continue towards Selfoss where we diverge from the Golden Circle and head towards Southeast Iceland, where crowds disperse and nature abounds.

Day 4 –

The wonders never cease. On this third day of the trip we have close encounters with spectacular waterfalls, dramatic canyons, and remarkable black sand beaches. We’ll start the day at Skógafoss, one of the largest waterfalls in the country. Bring your hiking boots and prepare to get wet and dirty. At each stop, we go deeper than most other visitors.

Day 5 –

You will think you’ve seen it all, but there’s more. Like an ethereal black lagoon where house-sized chunks of glacier bob and swirl as they float to sea.  After a brief stop here, we will meet up with some local guides for a kayak and glacier adventure. We will paddle into places that very few visitors get to see and get so close to the glaciers that we can actually climb onto the ice. There will always be a chance to see plenty of wildlife as Iceland is home to many sheep, reindeer, puffins, seals, whales, and of course the iconic Icelandic horses.

Day 6 –

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll grab picnic supplies for the day. That way, we can hike and explore all day without having to stop for lunch. Our best hiking options will be at Skaftafell National Park, though we also have some less crowded places to explore along the way. Our destination for the day is the quaint seaside village of Vík with its famous black sand beaches.

Day 7 –

We’ll start the day with a little souvenir shopping before leaving Vík. Then we meet up with an old friend who leads us on a private hike through a dynamic geothermal landscape. Boiling water runs just beneath the surface of the ground in this area, leading to many hot springs in the nearby hills. In truth, the hike is NOT the highlight of this excursion. It’s the dip in a secret hot river followed by a special earth-baked meal. Bring your swimsuit and your appetite.

Day 8 –

Before we go home, there is actually one more side of Iceland to see: the inside! Explore a volcano the way few dare to do by entering the The Lava Tunnel. It’s actually a 5,000-year-old lava tube with multiple caverns, and we’ll be supplied lanterns to find our way through. If we can find our way back out, we’ll be heading back to the airport (or Reykjavík) from there.

ABOUT THE ITINERARY

We do our best to plan a complete and satisfying adventure, but the itinerary above and the activities and accommodations described within are subject to change for reasons beyond our control. As your adventure guides, we may have to make alternate plans as conditions dictate.

Fit 4 Adventure's Iceland trip makes its way around the entire country, giving us amazing scenery in between the hiking, biking, kayaking, and horseback riding! What a great way to see a beautiful place. If you've never been to Iceland, or if all you've ever seen is Reykjavik and the Blue Lagoon, then you owe it to yourself to take this trip!

We had a great time with the Iceland tour. Everything was taken care of from when we arrived at the airport to getting us back for the departing flight. We saw the highlights of Iceland and got to explore some the nooks and crannies that the big tour busses will never see. Highly recommended.

This was our first time with Fit 4 Adventure and we are looking forward to joining them again. We spent 7 fantastic days exploring Iceland which included hiking, kayaking among icebergs, geo-thermal hot baths, seeing beautiful waterfalls, geysers and recent lava flow from volcano, horseback riding on black beaches and best of all was a secret hot river hike/dip. Hotels were modern, clean, comfortable and our rooms had good views (such as mountains...). Food was good and fresh. We loved the tomato farm tour that had lunch served with delicious tomato soup and bread onsite greenhouses. Our guide, Joe Dann, was super nice and attentive. We had a great time. We highly recommend this tour to everyone.

Iceland was a dream! Every detail meticulously planned. Packed so much into a day-just like I hoped. Beautiful scenery, active adventures, great people. Thank you for a wonderfully active vacation!

I am so glad that I decided to go! The hikes, waterfalls, kayaking, walking on glaciers, horseback riding (even with my rogue horse!) and being talked in to a cold plunge at the geothermal pool (which I ended up doing four times as it was so exhilarating) made for a phenomenal trip. Joe, our guide, is a man of great patience, caring and concern. I would highly recommend this adventure!
